About the event

Oak trees have been considered sacred in many cultures for millenia, and it is even said that the word "church" may be derived from Quercus, the botanical name for oak trees.  These tress provide critical habitat for thousands of of other species of birds, invertebrates, mammals, and other plants.  Acorns have also been utilized as a highly nutritious food by nearly every culture where oak trees have grown.  In addition to all of this they provide medicine, firewood, craft and building materials for humans.  The gifts these trees offer are truly mind blowing.

We'll get to know this plant by using our senses, through the lens of botany, traditional herbal actions, traditional stories, and through getting to know its spirit.

We'll work through the whole process of preparing acorns to use for food, send participants home with a jar of leaching acorns, and enjoy a delicious acorn flour treat.  We'll make a gorgeous black oak gall ink, which can be used for writing and drawing and was a favorite ink of Leonardo DaVinci.

This class is offered on a sliding scale $75-95.  Payments can be made through PayPal, Venmo, or credit card or can be paid by check or cash the day of.

We are committed to not letting money be a barrier for anyone with a genuine interest in participating.  Please reach out if you would like to work out a partial trade or alternative financial arrangement.
